Kent, 1953. The Woolworths store in Erith is a cornerstone of its community, and it faces closure if the December takings fail to rise. Store manager Betty Billington has staff shortages to cope with and a troublesome new employee on her hands, as well as a Christmas to rescue. She and her team devise special events for late-night shoppers and a festive group outing to central London, while the Erith Players pantomime promises to draw a crowd. With the shop decked out in tinsel and decorations, the question is whether a Christmas miracle can save it. This is the tenth book in Everest’s much-loved Woolworths series, following Celebrations for the Woolworths Girls. It is a warm, nostalgic story about friendship and community in hard times, best enjoyed with a bag of pick’n’mix.
