October 1940, and Bobby Bancroft has traded her city typist's desk for a junior reporter role at a Yorkshire Dales magazine, convinced she is heading towards the life she has always wanted. Silverdale has other ideas. The villagers are close-knit and cautious, the local animals uncooperative, and the mischievous vet Charlie appears to regard her arrival as a personal entertainment. Firth writes wartime rural life with warmth and a sharp comic touch, and Bobby's determination to belong is both funny and quietly moving.
Excellent choice. I have only read 3 books so far but have enjoyed them immensely and I am looking forward to the next book. I have bought from bookhound before and will again. Thank you.
