Both these books are beautifully written but unexpected. I assumed that they would concentrate on England but they travelled further afield. On the way McFarland quotes from many authors particularly in Landmarks so it becomes a book review in itself. In fact I was able to share in my French granddaughters philosophy lessons vis one of the quoted authors.
