In the spy trade, trust is the first thing to go, closely followed by memory. These stories find agents unsure who they are and which colleague has been quietly working for the other side. Expect borrowed identities and very few genuinely safe houses. Perfect reading for the suspicious mind!
Mick Herron, Spook Street - A bomb rips through a crowded shopping centre, and Slough House’s disgraced spooks must find the bomber fast. Meanwhile, River Cartwright’s grandfather, a Cold War legend, is losing his memory and suspects his old service wants him quietly gone.
Robert Ludlum, The Bourne Imperative - Jason Bourne pulls a half-frozen man with a gunshot wound from a lake. He wakes with no memory of who he is or who shot him. A renegade Mossad agent is hunting him, and Bourne must learn the truth first.
James Swallow, Ghost - A faceless terrorist known only as Madrigal is staging attacks across the globe, and a betrayal inside his own covert team leaves Marc Dane racing through the dark net to unmask him before the world tips into war.
David Baldacci, The Target - Assassin Will Robie and partner Jessica Reel face an enemy shaped by brutal training. A dying old man in an Alabama prison hospital still has one last scheme, and it reaches uncomfortably close to home for both of them.
