The Glory Days - the Best of Rankin's Rebus MT67A
✭✭✭✭✭Three books from Rankin's mid-period, when his range was fully open and Rebus was becoming one of British crime fiction's defining figures. Edinburgh does what Edinburgh does best in each of them: conceals. A career politician. A buried fire. A body in the medieval vaults beneath the city streets. The darkness isn't incidental to the place; it grows from it. Read them in sequence and you'll understand why Rankin changed what readers expect from crime fiction.
Strip Jack - Popular Edinburgh MP Gregor Jack survives a brothel raid. When his wife vanishes, Rebus finds the scandal is only the start.
The Black Book - A five-year-old hotel fire, a cold case others have shelved, but Rebus pulls at threads that powerful people would rather leave buried.
Mortal Causes - A body lies in Edinburgh's underground vaults, whilst festival crowds circle above. Paramilitary connections make this Rebus's most dangerous investigation yet.

Only reading the first book, but already enjoying it. Looking forward to the rest.
I won’t be reading these books myself, they’re a gift for my brother in law for Christmas. As it’s not yet Christmas, I haven’t yet given them to him.
